Head Injury

Please observe the patient closely during the next 24-48 hours for any of the following signs:

  • Increasing drowsiness or inability to arouse the patient. Look for a personality change or irritability. Awaken patient during the first night every 2 to 3 hours. If he says, “mom, go away and quit bugging me,” he’s OK.
  • Upset stomach and vomiting, if occurring more than once.
  • Unequal eye pupils, double or blurred vision.
  • Clear fluid or blood dripping from ear or nose.
  • Twitching or convulsions.
  • Continued or persistent headaches.
  • Neck stiffness. Check with patient on back. Attempt to touch chin to chest.
  • Weaknesses of either an arm or leg, unsteady gait, or inability to move all extremities.
  • Incoherent or slurred speech.
  • Change in respiration, difficulty breathing or blue tint to lips, fingers, or toes.
